There are many different vehicle manufacturers throughout the world that are known for inventing many different types of vehicles; some are domestic manufacturers and some are foreign. Some of the top manufacturers are Volkswagen, Ford, GM, Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Land Rover, Chrysler, Porsche, Hyundai, Suzuki, BMW, Kia, Isuzu and Volvo. Japan is one of the biggest foreign manufacturers or also called JDM. Honda was the first Japanese automaker to build a factory in the United States opening one up in Ohio in the early 1980’s. Nissan also opened up their first factory in the 1980’s located in Tennessee. The United States has three of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers; General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler. General Motors is the largest automobile manufacturer in the United States and the world. General Motors is known for selling Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn. Ford Motor Company was founded by Henry Ford and is known for selling Volvo, Mercury, Mazda, Lincoln, Jaguar cars and Fords. Chrysler was formed in 1925 by Walter Chrysler and since being created has always been the third biggest manufacturer in the United States. The Chrysler Group is known for selling Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles.

Tesla Motor Company is located in San Francisco, CA and is known for its all-electric sports car with plans to manufacture a more economical version by 2012. Toyota another popular vehicle manufacturer started out in 1984 based out of California. Toyota has plants all over the United States. In 2003 the United States produced the most vehicles with Japan and Germany following close behind. The United States produces a variety of vehicles from compact cars, luxury cars; SUV’s and full size cars.
